The artist loves you
The Artist Loves You and Gives You Things attempts to literalize the relationship between artist and audience. The artist is portrayed as a self-portrait on the surface of a hand made cast frisbee which is distributed to members of an artistic community. This project began in the summer of 2003 at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the World. Fifty hand-cast customized plastic frisbees were made and exchanged in a game of pass with fellow artists from around the world. The Frisbee then went back to the respective cities of these artists to be kept in their possession for an indeterminate time until I am able to retrieve them. Three artists pictured (of fifty) receive The Artist Loves You and Gives You Things at sites around the Skowhegan artist residency. Each artist keeps the frisbees until they are able to be retrieved. Currently nearly half of the 50 editions of The Artist Loves You and Gives You Things have retrieved across two continents.
